Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep Klaasen, Cummins, and Abhishek ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Henrick Klassen, Pat Cummins, and Abhishek Sharma—these popular names will be staying at SRH ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, as per the report of ESPNcricinfo. The South African power hitter, Heinrich Klaasen, is expected to be Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s top pick in the retention list. Klaasen will receive INR 23 Cr as the first retained player. The team has also negotiated two more retention deals: the INR 18 crore deal for Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins, who captained the Sunrisers in 2024; and the INR 14 Cr pact for Indian all-rounder Abhishek Sharma.

Sunrisers are also expected to announce the retention of Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy soon. The IPL has set an October 31 deadline for retentions ahead of the blockbuster auction later this year. Pat Cummins, who led the Sunrisers last season, will continue as captain in 2025.

The BCCI and IPL governing bodies recently announced that each team can keep up to six players from their 2024 squads, including a maximum of five capped players (Indian or foreign) and two uncapped Indians. Franchises can keep their players through the combo of retention deals and right-to-match (RTM) cards at the auction.

INR 120 crore will be the purse for the 2025 auction. The IPL also established various retention slabs—INR 18 Cr, INR 14 Cr, and INR 11 Cr for the first three capped retentions, and INR 18 Cr and INR 14 Cr for the next two, with uncapped Indians earning a maximum of INR 4 Cr—but franchises are free to split the capped retention pot of INR 75 Cr among five capped players as they see fit.
