Who Won Yesterday Match T20 World Cup 2024: IND vs SA Final

Who Won Yesterday Match T20 World Cup 2024:  The 13-year drought of not winning an ICC tournament finally ended in Barbados for  Men in Blue as they became the world champions in the shortest format of the game after a wait of 17 years.

Though India started as the firm favorite in the tournament, the only aberration was not moving ahead with the knock stages. The heartbreak that took place in Ahmedabad last year inspired skipper Rohit to lead the team in such a way that they almost snatched Victory from Proteas, which appeared as if the long wait would continue and two senior pros, Virat and Rohit, would not finish on a satisfactory note.

After winning the loss, India opted to bat first at the Kensington Oval, Bridgeton, Barbados with a packed capacity of 28,000.  Call it the pressure of delivering on the big stage or something, India once again lost early wickets in the power plays leaving the responsibility on Virat to stitch a partnership and post a competitive total. After early blows in the form of Rohit and Pant, the elevation of Axar Patel in the top order yielded a healthy partnership and steadied the innings, which eventually proved vital.

The determination to do well on the big stage made Virat play his best knock of the tournament and stitched a partnership with Askhar as he took charge of SA bowlers and hit some lusty blows. The lower middle order also contributed well Shivam Dubey came to the party and Cameo of 27(16).

Virat after a quiet start also changed gears and India finished with 176-7(20 overs). In reply,  Indian bowlers picked two early wickets.  Reeza Hendricks & Aiden Makram fell early and the third-wicket partnership between Snubb & QDK tested the patience of Men in Blue.

Until the arrival of Klaasen, it looked like Indian spinners would not let the SA middle order go after the bowling. However, Captain Rohit made a tactical mistake to employ spinners and fed him the dish that he always relishes. Once again Klaasen was at its brutal best and hit the Indian spinners all around the park. He was very severe on Axar and hit 24 runs in the 15th over. From there on only Proteas could lose there, however.

But destiny was written in the skies as it did in Johannesburg in 2007 when India lifted the trophy after the dramatic over. Hardik Pandya trapped Klaasen by bowling a widish delivery which he sneaked and Pant pouched a simple catch behind the stumps.

It was just a respite for millions of Indian fans, however, the job was yet to be done to win this elusive World T20 trophy. Bumrah was brought back into the attack and he did the same as was expected and bowled economical overs and took the wicket of Marko Jansen. However, the threat in the form of Miller was still there at the other end.

History repeats itself! SA needed 16 of 6 balls, and David Miller was on strike. Hardik bowled a low full toss which he lofted in the long off region which appeared to fetch maximum. However, SKY took an incredible catch on the ropes which will be encrypted and remembered by the cricket fraternity and Indian fans for a long time. This was no less than what Kapil Dev did in Lord’s taking a running catch of Sir Vivian Richards which sealed the victory.

The wicket of Miller proved substantial in the end and not much was expected from the tailenders in such a high-pressure game. SA once again continued their tag of Chokers and gave it away– a test-playing nation still has to wait for their first-ever ICC trophy.
