Mumbai Indians first picked Axar Patel in the 2013 season, in which he warmed the bench in all matches. Later, he became a player from 2014 to 2018 of Punjab Kings team. Patel also gained the Emerging Player of the Tournament in IPL 2014, getting 17 scalps in the season.

He continued along with his regular display in the subsequent seasons, getting 10-plus wickets from 2015 to 2017. He debuted for more than a hundred wickets and more than two centuries in his IPL career.
