ICC Ranking Updates: Bumrah Back to the Top, Jaiswal Achieved Career Best Ranking, Kohli Gains Nine Spots

On Wednesday, 27 November, ICC updated its weekly ranking charts. In the recent test ranking updates, Indians benefited the most, thanks to the record-breaking performance against Australia in the Perth Test

India’s stand-in test captain and now officially the world’s no. 1 test bowler, Jasprit Bumrah  returned to the top of the ICC Test Bowling Rankings with a career-high rating of 883 following his match-winning haul of 8 for 72 against Australia in Perth.

Bumrah, who registered a fifer in Australia’s first innings in Perth, bypassed Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood to the top. Bumrah first rose to the no. 1 spot in February of this year with a nine-wicket haul against England at home, and he briefly regained the top spot in October following the Bangladesh series until being surpassed by Rabada recently.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 161 in the second innings of the Perth Test, has risen to his career-best No. 2 spot in the ICC Test Batters Ranking. Jaiswal climbed two places to pass New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and England’s Harry Brook. He also earns his career’s best rating points—825—and now he is only 78 points behind No. 1 Joe Root.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli moved up nine ranks to 13th place after scoring his 30th Test century in 16 months. Mohammed Siraj, who took five wickets in the Perth Test, also improved, moving up three places to 25th on the Test bowling rankings.

Following his 89-run knock in the second innings in Perth, Australian batter Travis Head moved up three positions to No. 10. West Indies’ fast-bowling trio of Jayden Seales, Kemar Roach, and Alzarri Joseph all rose in the bowlers’ rankings after their efforts in the first Test against Bangladesh in Antigua.

Jayden Seales, who picked up 5 wickets for 87 runs, moved three places up to 11th; Kemar Roach rose four places up to 17th; and Alzarri Joseph, who took a fifer in the match, gained three places to reach 29th position in the ICC test bowling rankings.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz climbed three places to third in the allrounders’ rankings after scoring 23 and 45 runs and taking four wickets for 130 runs in the Antigua Test. Despite missing the Perth Test, India’s spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin are still ranked number one and two, respectively, in the test all-rounder’s ranking.
