India National Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Timeline: ODIs

The India national cricket team vs Pakistan national cricket team timeline is one of the most fascinating timelines of events in one-day cricket. The Indo-Pak ODI rivalry is one of the fiercest and storied rivalries in cricket history. The Indo-Pak ODI saga begins with the 1978-1979 Pakistan tour of India, where these two teams first played an ODI match in Ayub National Stadium in Quetta on October 1, 1978. The 1992 ODI World Cup was the first time the world has witnessed an India vs Pakistan match on the grandest stage of cricket.

In the 1992 World Cup, India beat Pakistan at Sydney Cricket Ground, and since then it has become a tradition for the upcoming Indian teams to beat Pakistan in ODI World Cup meetings. In the 1996 ODI World Cup, India and Pakistan once again locked horns at Chinnaswamy Stadium, where India emerged victorious again in the ODI World Cup against Pakistan. Third time India and Pakistan met in the ODI World Cup in Manchester, and the result of this match was the same as the two previous matches in the World Cup between India and Pakistan.

In the 2003 ODI World Cup, India and Pakistan faced off in Centurion, and this match is probably the most memorable encounter in Indo-Pak World Cup matches. This match was known for Sachin’s extraordinary innings and his shot over the point on a short ball from Shoaib Akhtar. Apart from World Cups, India and Pakistan shared a heated rivalry in the Asia Cup tournament as well. Traditionally, Pakistan has been a stronger side that has the upper hand in head-to-head records against India in ODIs.

However, after the 2010s, the Indian team improved significantly and won the majority of their matches against Pakistan in 50-over format. The last time India-Pakistan met in 50-over format was in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where India defeated Pakistan easily. Pakistan has never defeated India in ODI World Cup matches.
