Washington Sundar Gets A Test Berth for the Remaining Tests Against New Zealand

Washington Sundar, who struck his maiden first-class century for Tamil Nadu in the recently held Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, will join India’s squad for the second and third Tests against New Zealand. The BCCI selectors have added Washington to India’s Test team as the 16th member, with no further alterations.

Sundar was added to the squad as a spin all-round option after New Zealand’s historic win in Bengaluru. The Kiwis took a 356-run lead after bowling the Men in Blue for a record-low total of 46. Despite India’s fightback in the second innings, the Black Caps went into the second Test with a 1-0 lead after chasing the target of 107 in the fourth innings.

India has added Sundar to their Test squad to maintain the balance of the team, as Sundar can provide crucial runs down the order as well as produce pivotal breakthroughs. The right-arm spinner has taken six wickets in four Tests for India and scored 265 runs at an average of 66.25.

In the Ranji match against Delhi, Washington batted at number three and scored 152, his second first-class century, in Tamil Nadu’s first innings.
