Came to chase a big target of 190, Dubai Capitals got a more devastating start compared to Desert Vipers as they lost three wickets in just five overs when the score was 31 runs. However, opener Shai Hope held one side with a resilient 43 off 39 balls. But the real hero of the mighty chase of 190 was the Caribbean six-hitting machine, Rovemann Powell.
Powell was dropped by Viper’s wicketkeeper Azam Khan when the team’s total was 46/3, and the Jamaican batter made the most out of it, scoring 63 off 38 and propelling Capitals to win their first-ever ILT20 title. Sikandar Raza, 34 off 12 balls, also played a significant role in this win with a timely cameo in the end.
Because of his heroics, Rovemann Powell was named player of the match, and Desert Viper’s skipper, Sam Curran, was named player of the series. Dubai Capital’s Shai Hope was the leading run-getter of the tournament with 527 runs under his belt. Meanwhile, MI Emirates’ Fazalhaq Farooqi became the leading wicket-taking bowler of the tournament with 21 wickets.
