Injured Surya Kumar Yadav is Set to Miss the First Round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25

The captain of the Indian T20I side Surya Kumar Yadav will not feature in the first round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy because of a hand injury. Surya got injured during a pre-season fixture for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. At present, Surya is at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru for recovery.

After hurting his hand while fielding on the third day of the match against TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar did not bat in the second inning. The Mumbai team administration at the time stated that the action was taken as a precaution considering his importance in the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy campaign.

Surya Kumar Yadav was named in the India C squad, whose skipper is Ruturaj Gaikwad. India C has to start its Duleep Trophy campaign against India D, which is led by Shreyas Iyer. Surya is not the only renowned player to be ruled out of the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

Recently, fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik were also ruled out of the Duleep Trophy’s opening round due to illness. Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out too, though the BCCI did not give a reason for his withdrawal. For the India B and C teams, respectively, Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav will take the places of Siraj and Malik.

Nitish Kumar Reddy, meantime, has been cleared by the NCA. After being ruled out of India’s T20I squad for Zimbabwe in July due to a groin injury, his inclusion was contingent on his level of fitness.
