Bumrah’s Status Confirmed As India Announces ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Squad

Jasprit Bumrah is confirmed to play in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting on February 19. The squad leaves two big names- Sanju Samson and Mohammed Siraj, raising questions.

India Squad for Champions Trophy 2025 Announced: The two-time championship winner, India announced its 15-member squad on Saturday for both the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series against England. The BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and team India skipper Rohit Sharma announced the squad, leaving two big names out Sanju Samson and Mohammaed Siraj

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team, and Shubman Gill is appointed as vice-captain. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who was left out in Sydney Test against Australia due to injury is expected to be fit to play the championship. However, Agarkar stated that Bumrah’s involvement in the matches is subject to the confirmation of his fitness.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are preferred over Saju Samson as wicket-keepers, while ace Indian ODI pacer Mohammad Siraj is also left out of the squad, despite his outstanding performance in ODIs over the last few years. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Shami are included in the team after successful recoveries.

The left-handed prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal joins the squad as the youngest member, whereas Hardik Pandya, who last played ODI in the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup, is the only pace-bowling all-rounder option. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar are the other all-rounders in the squad.

Rohit, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant will take charge of scoring runs for team India at the ICC event. The Indian pace battery will comprise Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami, led by Bumrah. Kuldeep Yadav will be the only specialist spinner in the team.
