  • 28 November 1947 – 10 February 1948 – Australia hosted 5 consecutive test matches against India and the Aussies won the series by 4 wins, showing their dominance from the early days. However, the second test in Sydney was drawn, which was also the test debut of Dattu Phadkar. 
  • 28 November 1969 – 28 December 1969 – India hosted Australia for a three-test-match series. Australia again showed their dominance by winning the series 3-1. This means that 1 out of 3 victories was achieved by India. This series also marked some powerful performances by players of both teams. 
  • 2 December 1977 – 3 February 1978 – India toured Australia for a 5-test-match series. Showing their superiority, this series was also won by the Aussies by 3-2. However, 2 out of 5 wins are secured under the Indian team

2. The rise of India: 1980s

  • 2 January 1981 – 11 February 1981 – During the three-test match series between these two teams, India made a significant breakthrough by winning the third test against the Aussies at Melbourne Cricket Ground. This amazing series ended in a 1-1 draw scenario, where 1 test was drawn.
  • 2 October 1986 – 7 October 1986 – Australia toured India and the Indian team won the 3 ODI series against the Aussies by 2-1. The first two matches were won by India, while the third ODI match of the series was won by Australia. This series reflected the competitive nature and determination of both teams
  • 22 October 1987 – During the Reliance World Cup, India again showed its capability to the Aussies, and registered an ODI victory against them by 56 runs. In this match, India scored 289 runs with 6 wickets down, while the Aussies managed to chase 233 runs with all wickets down. 

3. The Dominance of Australia: 1990s

  • 10 December 1991 – 1 March 1992 – Australia hosted India for ODI battles. During this period, both teams clashed 6 times for an ODI battle. Interestingly, 6 out of 6 battles were won by the Aussies, leaving India with no victories during this period. 
  • 25 January 1992 – 1 February 1992 – During the India tour of Australia, they fought against the Aussies in two test consecutive test matches. As usual, Australia showcased their top-class game by registering two out of two wins against India in this test match series. 
  • 14 April 1998 – 22 April 1998 – During the Coca-Cola Cup, the superiority of Australia was seen because, during this period, the Aussies won three ODI battles against India. On the other hand, no victories were registered by the Indian Team. 

4. The era of fierce battles: 2000s

  • 6 October 2004 – 10 October 2004 – India hosted the Aussies, and this test battle between both teams was won by Australia by 217 runs. The Aussies scored 474 & 228 runs in two innings, while India managed to score 246 & 239 runs in two innings. Besides, there was strong competition from both teams. 
  • 22 September 2007 – It was during ICC World Twenty20 2007 when we witnessed the first T20 battle between both teams. The first-ever AUS vs IND T20 battle was won by India with 15 runs. It was played in Durban where India scored 188 runs with 5 wickets down, while the Aussies managed to chase 173 runs with 7 wickets down. 
  • 2 March 2008 – 4 March 2008 – During this period, the Commonwealth Bank Series was held in Australia where India won two consecutive ODI battles against the Aussies, thus showcasing their strength. The Indian team managed to whitewash Australia in these two ODI matches. 

5. The recent battle: 2010s

  • 22 February 2013 – 24 March 2013 – During this period, India hosted 4 test matches against the Aussies. Interestingly, 4 out of 4 wins were achieved by India, marking a fabulous performance from the team. However, Australia managed to give tough competition to the Indian team
  • 12 January 2016 – 23 January 2016 – During India’s tour of Australia, an ODI series of 5 matches was significantly played, and 4 out of 5 wins in this series were won by the Aussies, while the Indian team managed to win only 1 ODI match. Therefore, Australia continued its dominance. 
  • 26 January 2016 – 31 January 2016 – During India’s tour of Australia, a T20I series of 3 matches was hosted by the Aussies. Interestingly, 3 out of the 3 wins were achieved by India on Australian soil, and no victories took place under the Australian team

6. The Latest of all: 2020s

  • 7 June 2023 – 11 June 2023 – During the ICC World Test Championship, the Oval cricket ground witnessed the latest test match between both teams. The Aussies made a score of 469 & 270/8d in two innings, while India scored 296 & 234 runs in two innings. Therefore, Australia won the test by 209 runs. Not to forget the sheer competition from both ends. 
  • 19 November 2023 – Not a single Indian can forget this day because it was the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and India lost to Australia by 6 wickets. The final happened at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Keeping the results aside, there were some amazing performances by the players of both teams. 
  • 24 June 2024 – This was the most recent T20I battle between both teams. India amassed 205 runs for the fall of 5 wickets, while Australia managed to chase 181 runs with 7 wickets down. Therefore, India won the match by 24 runs, showcasing sheer determination. However, there was strong competition from the Aussies as well. On this day, Rohit Sharma also scored 92 runs.
