Australian Men’s Cricket Team Vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Timeline and Stats 

The Australian Men’s Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team timeline comprises the matches between both teams in all formats. Aus vs Pak saw some nail-biters as well as one-sided games. Well, both teams faced off for the first time on November 15th, 1956 and over the years both teams’ rivalry became more stronger and interesting with the promising talents contributing to the games from bat, ball, and field as well. As cricket has become more popular from time to time, the matches between Australia and Pakistan are loaded with tense and nail-biting situations.

The First Face-off (1950s-1970s) 

1956 –  The rivalry between Australia and Pakistan is one of the most intense and exciting in the world of cricket just like when the first encounter took place between them in 1956 on October 11  at  Karachi. In this match, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 80 and 187 in both innings, while on the other side, the Pakistan team easily snatched the match away from Australia and won by 9 wickets in hand. 

1959 –  Again the test series took place between the two great nations where Australia toured Pakistan for 3 test match series and this time Kangaroos humbled Pak and won the test series by 2- 0. In the three-test match series Pakistan’s key batter, Saeed Ahmed scored the most runs 334, and the Australian Richie Benaud took 18 wickets as the leading wicket-taker.

1964 – For the first time Pakistan toured Australia and played a single test match which took place in Melbourne Cricket Ground ( MCG), where Australia won the toss and elected to field first. By batting first Pakistan scored 287 & 326 in both innings with brilliant batting by Hanif Mohammad and on the Australian side middle-order batsman took charge and consequently 4 batsmen scored a half-century. 

The Awakening of Pakistan ( 1970’s – 1990’s ) 

1975 – The Australian Men’s Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team timeline mentions one of the notable matches, where both nations faced off each other for their first ODI match in the 1975 World Cup. From the start, Australia had taken charge by winning the toss and elected to bat first and scored a good score of 278/7. On the other side, Pakistan’s batting order did not show much impact and got all out on the score of 205, which resulted in losing the match by 73 runs.  

1976 –  Again history is going to repeat itself when Australia toured Pakistan for the three-test match series, where Pakistan leveled up the series by 1 -1 with a first match that was a draw. 

1979 –   The ODI World Cup 1979 where this time the game came in the favor of the Pakistan Team and they won their first ODI match against Australia by 89 runs, which proved to the world that the Pakistan team could also give a tough fight to oppositions.

1982 –  The historical test match series took place in Pakistan, where Australia toured Pakistan and lost the test match series by a clean sweep 3 -0. In this 3-test match series, the most run-getter was Mohsin Khan ( 297), and the most wickets were taken by Abdul Qadir (22). The series has shown the world that Pakistan can beat any team in any format.  

1990 –  In the year 1990, when the Austral-Asia Cup was going on, 5 strong teams were playing ( India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan)  the Pakistan team won the Austral-Asia Cup at the International level by defeating Australia in the finals by 36 runs.

Pakistan Best Phase ( 1990’s – 2010’s ) 

1992 – 1992 is the year that changed the fate of Pakistan Cricket because it took place in the World Cup and in their 2nd match where they faced Australia and defeated them by 48 runs, later Pakistan made it to the finale and lifted their first ever World Cup title under Imran Khan’s captaincy.  

1999 – The World Cup 1999 was also a historic match for both teams because this time Australia took their revenge on Pakistan in the World Cup finale, where the match was delayed by 30 minutes of the time due to rain, and when it came to the toss, Pak won the toss and elected to bat first and hardly they manage to reach the score upto 132 runs, which is not even meeting the standards of any world cup match, legendary spinner Shane Warne bowl the magical spell of 4/33 and later Australia easily won their second title with 8 wickets in hand.  

2002 –  In 2002 Pakistan toured Australia for the 3 ODI series, where they again claimed their victory over Australia by winning the series 2 -1. The Pakistan Rawalpindi Express ( Shoaib Akhtar) captured the first place for most wickets in the series with 7 wickets and the most run-getter is Imran Nazir’s 111 runs. This is the only series in which none of the batsmen from both sides scored a century in a single match.  

2007 – The Australian Men’s Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team timeline again tells about a historical match, when for the first time in the history of cricket the T20 format was announced and in the same year T20 World Cup also took place in South Africa. India lifted the World trophy but talking about the Aus vs Pak first T20 rivalry is epic where the Pakistan team put up a competitive show and won their first T20 match against Australia by 6 wickets. Man of the Match (MOM) Misbah-ul-Haq played a quick fire of 66 runs in just 42 balls.  

2010 –  In 2010 the series was going on between both of the teams on neutral ground and both teams had a great match but Pakistan showed their dominance and won the 2-match ODI series by 2-0. 

Last But Not The Least ( 2010 – 2020 ) 

2014 –  Due to some terrorist activities rising in Pakistan, the test series that was going to take place in Pakistan had been shifted to UAE, where both the teams face off each other again, and in the two test match series Pakistan again marked their presence and won the test match series with 2 -0 

2016 –  The 2016 ODI series, which saw Australia win 4-1 and marked a transformation in Australia’s ODI performance.
