Match Summary:
The third and last test match of the ongoing Pakistan vs England test series was played in Rawalpindi, where England chose to bat first on the turning track after winning the toss. England started their inning decently, adding 50 runs for the opening partnership. Playing at the score of 56, Zak Crawley was dismissed by Noman Ali, and after that, English batters stood in the line to give away their wicket to spinners. Both Sajid and Noman dismissed nine out of ten English batters, and England was wrapped up at 267 in 68.2 overs of the first day’s play. When Pakistan startedwas starting their first inning on Day 1, the wicket of Pindi had already started to behave mischievously where the ball was turning as well as keeping low. Because of this, Pakistan was looking uncomfortable while batting on Day 1 and ended the day with a score of 73/3 in 23 overs with Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel on the crease.
On Day 2, when the play was resumed, Pakistan added just 26 runs to their overnight score before losing skipper Shan Masood. At this point, Pakistan was tottering with the score of 99/4, on the brink of conceding a big first-inning lead. But from there, Saud Shakeel secured one end and formed crucial partnerships with Mohammad Rizwan, Aamir Jamal, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan. Saud’s partnership with Noman Ali and Sajid Khan proved to be decisive. Saud and Noman put together a 77-run stand for the eight-wicket before Noman was dismissed on the score of 265 after contributing valuable 45 runs to this partnership.
After this, Saud Shakeel and Sajid Khan deflated England by stitching a 72-run partnership for the ninth wicket. This partnership was broken when Saud Shakeel was dismissed by Gus Atkinson on an individual score of 134. Sajid Khan contributed 48 runs to help Pakistan reach 344 runs. Rehan Ahmed and Shoid Bashir both combinedly sent back seven Pakistani batters to the pavilion. After coming to bat in the 74th over of Day 2; England needed to cut down a 77-run deficit before setting up a challenging target of 200 or 250 above on the rank-turner of Pindi. However, this proved to be a dream for England as they were left struggling on the stumps of Day 2 with a score of 23/4 in 9 overs with heroes of the previous test match Joe Root and Harry Brook at the crease.
Day 3 was a total nightmare for England as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals before being bundled out on 112 runs in 37.2 overs. Both Pakistani spinners Sajid Khan and Noman have done the job on their own, as they all out the English team by taking six and four wickets, respectively. England got all out on 112 runs, with Joe Root being the top scorer thanks to his resilient 33-run knock. Courtesy of wrapping up England on 112 in the third inning of the game, Pakistan got a target of 37 runs to win, which they achieved in just 3.1 overs to register their first-ever test series win in the last three years.
