Kamran Ghulam Scored Century on Debut While Replacing Babar Azam

Kamran Ghulam, who was making his test debut for Pakistan in the second test against England in Multan, celebrated his maiden test century on debut. Kamran made his test debut at 29 under the newly formed selection committee of PCB led by Alim Dar, as the committee dropped ex-captain Babar Aam from the second test to make way for Kamran Ghulam.

The right-handed batter came out to bat at No. 4 in place of Babar and completed his hundred with a boundary on the last ball of the 74th over. Kamran played 118 runs, inning off 224 balls with 11 boundaries and a six. Before making his Test debut on Monday, Kamran had played 59 first-class matches and scored 4377 runs at an average of 49.17 with 16 centuries.

Ghulam, who was playing in the second test of the Pak vs Eng test series in Multan, has started to solidify his place in the team. However, a concerning sign for Babar Azam, whom Kamran replaced in this match.

Babar Azam was dropped from Pakistan’s test squad as he failed to even register a fifty in his last 18 innings in tests. Babar’s last half-century in tests came in December 2022 against New Zealand in Multan. Since 2023, Babar Azam’s highest score in tests is 41, which he registered in December 2023 against Australia.

Apart from Babar Azam, two other noticeable players, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah, are also excluded from the test squad of Pakistan for the remaining England test series.

With this 118-run inning, Kamran Ghulam becomes the 13th Pakistani batsman to score a century on his test debut.
