Papua New Guinea T20 World Cup Squad 2024: This was the second appearance of PNG at cricket’s biggest stage since making its debut in the 2021 T20 World Cup, and PNG is looking prepared for the upcoming mega event as they have announced the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Papua New Guinea T20 World Cup Squad 2024 consists of 15 members who will be led by Assad Vala.
Assad Vala was also the captain of the Barramundis during their first T20 World Cup campaign. Leg-spinning all-rounder CJ Amini will be the deputy to Assad Vala in this World Cup. Fourteen members of this squad were part of PNG’s undefeated qualifying campaign.
The left-arm orthodox spinner, John Kariko, is the youngest member of this team. He is a newcomer, but he has playing experience in Caribbean conditions, thanks to Papua New Guinea’s appearance at the U19 World Cup in 2022. In this tournament, he took a five-wicket haul against Uganda.

The skipper, Assad Vala, has sent a message saying that his side is more prepared for this tournament, saying that due to COVID, they did not get enough time to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2021.
Addressing reports, the captain said, “The energy has been great within the team. For some of the boys who went to the last T20 World Cup, it’s a different feeling now with a lot of the training because the last time was during COVID, and the preparation wasn’t as good as what we’re going through now. I am looking forward to this event because I know we are going to do well.”
Former Zimbabwean prodigy Tatenad Taibu will be coaching this PNG T20 World Cup Squad 2024, which will start its 2024 World Cup campaign against the host nation the West Indies. The West Indies and Papua New Guinea will face each other on June 2 in Providence, Guyana.
Papua New Guinea is placed in Group C of this tournament with the West Indies, Uganda, Afghanistan, and New Zealand.
