New Zealand scripted history in Dubai by defeating the South African by 32 runs in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This T20 World Cup triumph is the first-ever World Cup trophy for New Zealand in men’s and women’s cricket. South African skipper Laura Wolveraadt won the toss and decided to chase on a track that has been used multiple times in this World Cup. New Zealand accepted the invitation to bat pretty well, as they posted a huge score of 158/5 in 20 overs. Thanks to Maddy Green and Amelia Kerr’s blistering innings.
South Africa got the ideal start required to chase such a difficult target of 159 runs, as the African opening pair of Wolveraadt and Brits put up a 51-run stand in 6.5 overs. But with the wicket of Brits, the floodgates opened, and New Zealand struck regularly to derail the South African chase. Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair played a crucial role in restricting South Africa to 126/9 in 20 overs.
