Deepti Sharma has been selected as the UP Warriorz’s WPL 2025 captain. Following their skipper Alyssa Healy’s exclusion from the event due to a stress strain in her right foot. Deepti has been one of Warriorz’s more reliable performers. She is their third-highest run scorer with 385 runs in 16 innings and their second-highest wicket-taker with 19 wickets in 17 games.
Despite Warriorz’s failure to qualify for the playoffs, Deepti had an incredible WPL 2024 season. In eight innings, she amassed 295 runs at an average of 98.33 and a strike rate of 136.57. Additionally, she took ten wickets with an economy rate of 7.23.
This is not the first time that the ace Indian allrounder has been leading a side; she had previous captaincy experience with Bengal in domestic cricket. Deepti also led East Zone in the 2024 Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal One Day Trophy and Team Velocity in the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge.
After being appointed captain of UP Warriorz, Deepti expressed herself by saying, “I am delighted and honoured to be named captain of the UP Warriorz, which is a team from my home state. The UP Warriorz has a fantastic squad, and we are confident that we will entertain our fans with the Warriorz brand of cricket, at the WPL this season as well. We can’t wait to play in Lucknow in front of our home fans, and hope to inspire the next generation of women athletes.”
Under Deepti Warriorz would like to improvise their previous year’s performance; however, Alyssa Healy, who leads Warriorz in WPL 2024, scoring 428 runs in 17 games, will be greatly missed.
Injuries have been a troublesome problem for Healy in recent times. She only made it to the MCG Test after passing a late fitness test, and she missed the latest Women’s Ashes T20I leg. Healy missed Australia’s last group game and the semi-final match against South Africa in October 2024 due to a ruptured plantar fascia in her foot during the T20 World Cup. Additionally, she sustained a knee injury during the 2024–25 WBBL. West Indies all-rounder Chinnelle Henry has been called up by Warriorz to replace Healy for the season.
On February 16, UP Warriorz will play the Gujarat Giants in Vadodara to begin their third WPL season. For the first time, they will also play a few games in front of their home crowd in Lucknow this season.
