Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis Took PBKS to Qualifier 1; Pushed MI to Eliminator

Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis took Punjab Kings to the Qualifier after defeating Mumbai Indians on Monday night in Jaipur. The duo played a 109-run stand for the second wicket to help PBKS complete the run chase of 185 effortlessly. The loss means that MI will compete in the Eliminator as their batting and bowling didn’t perform well in Jaipur.

After finishing in the top two in the IPL for the first time in eleven years, PBKS will now wait to see how the LSG vs RCB match on May 27 turns out to see whether they will truly win the championship.

SKY led MI in the first innings

Winning the toss, PBKS invited MI to bat first. Hardik, unsure of the upcoming challenges, welcomed the opportunity, however, the MI start was a mixed bag as they were hitting fours but a lot of dot balls as well. Rohit Sharma opened the match, along with Ryan Rickelton, and was seen struggling for a long time before hitting a boundary in the third over, particularly against the left-arm pacers Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen.

Rickelton, meanwhile, played some terrific shots to keep the rate up. Harpreet Brar bowled the powerplay, which gave Rohit some momentum with a six and a boundary, but Jansen dismissed Rickelton, which restricted MI to 52 for 1 in the powerplay.

In the next two overs, MI’s scoring rate decreased further, nevertheless, Suryakumar Yadav came in at No. 3 in the sixth over to play until the 19th over to end the game with Naman Dhir, helping MI ride through a wobbly middle phase.

Vijaykumar Vyshak dismissed Tilak Verma (1 off 4 balls) in the first over and Will Jacks in the fourth over for 17 off 8 balls, leading MI’s total to 106/4. Despite this, Suryakumar appeared stable after surpassing Sachin Tendulkar‘s MI record and reaching his 14th 25-plus score of the season. With a few lustful strikes, Hardik gave some short-lived enjoyment, but he also lost, since it appeared that Mumbai had given up on reaching 200.

As 23 came off the 19th over, Naman Dhir, who is being trained to be MI’s next finisher, provided much-needed impetus by hitting Vysakh with back-to-back sixes. Suryakumar also contributed a few boundaries. By dismissing both guys and making sure that only three runs came from the last over, Arshdeep restored some composure.

Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis anchored the innings for PBKS

Similar to MI, PBKS’s innings began with Priyansh hitting a couple of boundaries in the first over before Deepak Chahar got off to first wicket against Prabhsimran. In contrast to Priyansh, who appeared to be in the zone, Prabhsimran was rather irritated and uneasy. In the fourth over, Ashwani Kumar wasted a difficult opportunity that he nearly gave away to Chahar. Bumrah was introduced into the offensive at this point, and Ashwani immediately made apologies by taking Prabhsimran out of the game.  This moved Inglis, who had started at number three but was not producing, to the middle.

The Australian batter, though, began with a six off Chahar and appeared to be in a different zone. After that, he and Priyansh began attacking the MI bowlers and making sure none of them were allowed to get past them. Santner was the first to experience the anger, and Hardik was treated similarly.

The pair reached their 50-run partnership in the ninth over, while Punjab reached their 100-run mark in the eleventh over. By the 14th over, they had reached their 100-run partnership, with Inglis reaching his fifty in 29 balls and Priyansh in 27. Inglis ensured he stayed nearly to the very end to guarantee that PBKS will play the Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur on May 29 after Priyansh left.
