ICC Ranking Updates: Abhishek Sharma lists second in ICC T20I Rankings After Mumbai Heroics

India’s young batting sensation Abhishek Sharma jumped 38 places up to the second spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings for batters, while his teammate, left-handed batter Tilak Varma, holds the third place. Abhishek delivered the best innings of his fledging international career when he smashed a blazing 135 off 54 balls in the fifth and final T20I against England in Mumbai, leading India to an amazingly 4-1 series win. His knock got him 829 rating points, replacing Tilak Varma in the second spot.

Abhishek kicked off the series against England with an impressive performance, scoring 79 runs off just 34 balls to lead India to a successful chase of 133 in Kolkata. Despite that, he didn’t cross 29 in the next three innings. However,  he set the stage on fire in the fifth and final T20I. He busted seven fours and 13 sixes during that record innings, leading India to a 150-run victory.

Travis Head leads the T20I batting rankings, and Phil Salt and Suryakumar Yadav lie on 4th and 5th positions respectively.

Meanwhile, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who became the highest wicket-taker for the Indian team against the England series, moved up three positions to a joint-second in the T20I bowling rankings. Varun recorded 14 wickets in the five games at an average of 9.85 against England in five match series.

Varun, after his remarkable run in the T20Is, was included in India’s ODI squad for the series against England. During this impressive run, he also achieved his second five-wicket haul in T20Is. He is now equaled in rating points with England’s Adil Rashid, sitting in the second spot. Rashid wasted his chance to top the ranking charts due to a not-so-decent performance in Mumbai. West Indies’ Akeal Hosein grabbed this opportunity with both hands and climbed to the peak of the ICC T20I Bowling rankings.

Ravi Bishnoi, another India marvel, also moved up four spots to go sixth. He registered bowling figures of 1 for 9 from one over in Mumbai and concluded the series with 5 wickets.
