For the upcoming IPL season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has named Omkar Salvi as their new bowling coach. After leading the Mumbai senior men’s team to its first Ranji Trophy victory in eight years, Salvi has been making waves as a coach in the local circuit.
Under Salvi, Mumbai defeated the Rest of India in the Irani Cup later that year. When the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the 2024 Indian Premier League, Salvi was also a member of their coaching staff.
As Salvi prepares for his task at RCB, his brief stint with KKR continues to be his only IPL experience. After the current Indian domestic season concludes, he is expected to join the RCB camp.
Salvi’s signing thrilled RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, who hopes the Mumbaikar can be instrumental in turning around the team’s fortunes as it attempts to win the coveted IPL crown. An effective T20 team must have a potent bowling attack and coaching staff, and Bobat anticipates that Salvi’s addition will help in that area.
Salvi will work with Dinesh Karthik, who has been hired as RCB’s batting coach for the next season. Previously, the two had collaborated while Karthik was with KKR.
