Shikhar Dhawan, “the Gabbar” of Indian cricket, is one of the most stylish batsmen to ever play for Team India. He is a left-handed batsman, so it’s obvious that elegance comes naturally to his batting style. Shikhar was born into a Punjabi family in Delhi on December 5, 1985. His father’s name was Mahendra Pal and his mother’s name was Sunaina. He is known as a destructive opening batsman who can change the game single-handedly. Dhawan is known for performing in big matches, especially in ICC tournaments and this is the reason why he is also known as Mr. ICC.
Shikhar has achieved a lot of feats in his international career, such as holding the record for the fastest test century by a debutante. He was named Man of the Tournament in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, which was won by India and Shikhar was the leading run-getter in this tournament win. In the 2015 ICC men’s World Cup, he was the leading run scorer for India. In the 2017 Champions Trophy, he repeated his previous achievement of winning the Golden Bat by becoming the top run scorer in the tournament. Shikhar was the fastest batsman to reach 1000, 2000 and 3000 runs. He was the first batsman in the IPL who has scored two consecutive centuries.
Shikhar has numerous records like this under his belt, but his international cricket career has been a glorious tale of comebacks. He has been dropped from Team India on many occasions, sometimes due to injury and sometimes due to poor form. But as Dhawan is known for his fighting spirit, he has made comebacks after comebacks and is currently waiting for his next comeback in the Indian squad. Dhawan last played for India in December 2022 against Bangladesh in an ODI.
