Top 5 Most Wickets in IPL 2024

1. Harshal Patel (Punjab Kings)

Harshal Patel, who had been the Purple Cap holder in IPL 2021, is back with a vengeance in IPL 2024. Well-known for his deceptive slower deliveries and shrewd variations of bowling, Harshal has once again proved himself a match-winner for Punjab Kings (PBKS). The ability to bowl in crucial phases, particularly in death overs has made him one of the most feared bowlers in the league.

  • Wickets: 24
  • Runs: 477
  • Economy rate: 9.73
  • Best In innings: 3/15

Strengths:

  • Slower Balls: Deceiving slower balls- Harshal’s biggest armoury has indeed been the slower ball, and he mixes up well to deceive even the more accomplished batsmen while the team was approaching the death overs.

Harshal Patel in the race for the most wickets in IPL 2024, with 24 wickets, proves that winning Purple Cap season back in 2021 was no fluke.

2. Varun Chakravarthy (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Varun Chakravarthy returns as one of the most feared spinners of the IPL once again by outperforming performances from 2024. The mystery spinner, who faced his highest hurdle yet in terms of form and injuries, seemed much stronger for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season. He could bowl in the power-play and the middle overs was one of the biggest weapons in KKR’s bowling armoury.

  • Wickets: 21
  • Runs: 402
  • Economy rate: 8.04
  • Best In innings: 3/16

Strengths:

  • Mystery spinner: The biggest strength is that he keeps everyone guessing. His variations often put batsmen in trouble at difficult moments.
  • Economy Rate: Not only does he strike, but also his wickets with tight economy rates make him KKR’s most sought-after bowler.

Currently with 21 wickets, Varun Chakravarthy already seems to be the strongest contender to win the most wickets in IPL 2024 – he is currently the leading spinner of the tournament.

3. Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians)

Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indian‘s leading bowler, showed the world again why he is simply one of the best, even after he had lost a major amount of time in international cricket owing to his back injury. Back after getting fit, Bumrah has been on the field with as much intensity and skill as he established himself as a household name.

Bumrah’s yorkers, especially in the death overs, have been a nightmare for batsmen. In a game against Royals Challengers Bangalore, Bumrah delivered a sensational 4-wicket spell, including a wicket-maiden in the final stages of the match. His pace, accuracy, and ability to bowl under pressure kept Mumbai Indians in contention for yet another IPL title.

  • Wickets: 20
  • Runs: 336
  • Economy rate: 6.48
  • Best In innings: 5/21

Strengths:

  • Deadly yorkers: Bumrah’s yorkers are almost unplayable, especially in the death overs. He has consistently hit the block hole, and it is difficult for batsmen to score a single run.
  • Ability to perform under pressure: He keeps calm during spells. This sets him apart from other bowlers in a short ball game.

4. T Natarajan (SunRisers Hyderabad)

T Natarajan, who can bowl pinpoint yorkers, has caught the eye among Sunrisers Hyderabad players in IPL 2024 after years of injury battles before this season. This season has seen Natarajan make a stunning comeback as he has been picking wickets consistently from the power-play till death.

  • Wickets: 19
  • Runs: 465
  • Economy rate: 9.05
  • Best In innings: 4/19

Strengths:

Deadly yorkers: Similar to Bumrah, Natarajan is a master of delivering yorkers, especially in death overs, which starves the opposition of runs.

Control and Swing: The ball that Natarajan swings into the power-play and controls with his left-arm pace is effective for the bowling attack of SRH.

5. Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Kolkata Knight Riders is one of the most fetching stars of IPL 2024. Harshit Rana, in all his youth, continues to sign match-winning performances. He created a niche for himself that most of his wickets happen through pace and bounce.

  • Wickets: 19
  • Runs: 383
  • Economy rate: 9.08
  • Best In innings: 3/24

Strengths:

  • Pace and bounce: Harshit’s stature and action make him bowl at a sharp bounce and make it difficult to play shots.
  • Aggressive attitude: Rana doesn’t hesitate to attack the stumps and bowls short-pitched deliveries, which frequently reap wickets.

With 19 wickets, Harshit Rana has become a fast-paced leader among the bowlers in KKR’s most wickets in IPL 2024.
