Rinku Singh Biography
Rinku Singh is an Indian cricketer who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. Rinku is a left-handed middle-order batter who can occasionally bowl off-spin. Rinku Singh was born into a poor family and is third of the five siblings. Rinku’s father’s name is Khanchand, who worked in an LPG distribution company. Rinku Singh’s mother’s name is Vina Devi.
Rinku Singh started his cricket career with hardships due to the financial conditions of his family. Although the accommodations for his training were provided by his father’s employers, due to his hard work and talent, Rinku soon broke into the Uttar Pradesh U16 team. He also represented Uttar Pradesh in the U19 and U23 age groups. At the age of 16, Rinku Singh made his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh in March 2014 and emerged as the top scorer of that match by scoring 83 runs.
Rinku made his first-class debut in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh on 5 November 2016. After that, Rinku became an important figure in Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji team. In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, he finished the tournament as the leading run scorer for Uttar Pradesh with 953 runs in 10 matches. Given his performance in the Ranji Trophy, Rinku Singh was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the 2017 IPL auction. However, he didn’t get any matches at KXIP. In the IPL 2018 auction, Rinku Singh was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders.
On April 8, 2018, Rinku Singh made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens. In this match, he scored just six runs from six balls. In his first IPL season, Rinku played just 4 matches and scored a mere 29 runs with an average of 7.25. In the next two seasons, Rinku played in just six matches. In the 2021 IPL season, Rinku was sidelined for the entire season due to a knee injury. However, KKR retained him in the 2022 IPL season, despite not-so-convincing performances in his IPL career so far.
The 2022 IPL proved to be a breakthrough season for him, as he earned his first man of the match award after a 42-run knock in 23 balls against RR. In the 2022 IPL, Rinku scored 174 runs in 7 matches at an average of 34.80 with a strike rate of 148.72.
In the 2023 IPL, Rinku Singh achieved a record-breaking feat against the Gujarat Titans. On 9 April 2023, in the GT vs. KKR match, Rinku Singh struck five sixes in the last over of Yash Dayal to chase down 29 runs in the last over. This is the highest number of runs ever scored in an IPL match’s final over in a successful run chase. In the 2023 IPL, Rinku played 14 matches for KKR and smashed 474 runs with 4 half-centuries at an average of 59.25. Although his 2024 IPL season was not went according to expectations, as he managed just 168 runs in 14 matches at an average of 18.67.
Rinku Singh got his first national call during the 2023 India Tour of Ireland. On 18 August 2023, in the 1st T20I match of this tour. On 19 December 2023, Rinku Singh made his ODI debut during the 2023-24 India Tour of South Africa. In May 2024, he was chosen as a reserve player for India’s 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. His last international appearance was on the 2024 Indian tour of Sri Lanka.
