Arun Jaitley Stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, is the second-oldest international cricket stadium in India. This stadium has always been in controversies regarding pitch behavior due to extremely low bounce wickets. The stadium derives its former name from where it is situated. It is close to the Feroz Shah Kotla, a fort constructed by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate. This venue got its new name in memory of the former finance minister of India, Mr. Arun Jaitley, because he served as the president of DDCA and vice president of BCCI.
Since it was first established in 1883, this venue has undergone extensive redevelopment. The stadium is also referred to by the locals as “Kotla,” which is a colloquial word for citadel or fortification. In 1948, India and the West Indies played the first-ever international cricket match in this stadium. Since then, this venue has hosted 73 international cricket matches; 35 of them are Tests, 31 are ODIs, and 7 are T20Is.
