Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report, Records, Stats & Boundary Length

Arun Jaitley Stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, is the second-oldest international cricket stadium in India. This stadium has always been in controversies regarding pitch behavior due to extremely low bounce wickets. However, in recent times, the Arun Jaitley pitch report suggests that now wickets at this stadium have become batting-friendly after renovation for the 2023 ODI World Cup

The stadium derives its former name from where it is situated. It is close to the Feroz Shah Kotla, a fort constructed by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate. This venue got its new name in memory of the former finance minister of India, Mr. Arun Jaitley, because he served as the president of DDCA and vice president of BCCI.

Since it was first established in 1883, this venue has undergone extensive redevelopment. The stadium is also referred to by the locals as “Kotla,” which is a colloquial word for citadel or fortification. In 1948, India and the West Indies played the first-ever international cricket match in this stadium. Since then, this venue has hosted 73 international cricket matches; 35 of them are Tests, 31 are ODIs, and 7 are T20Is.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report & Pitch Behavior

Over the years, pitches at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium have been known for their low bounce and spin-friendly nature. However, after an ODI between India and Sri Lanka had to be canceled in December 2009, the Kotla pitch faced harsh criticism for its terribly uneven bounce, which led to the decision that the pitch was unsafe. But there were no significant changes made to the wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium until 2023. The pitches at Arun Jaitley Stadium underwent significant renovations in 2023 for preparations for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. After that, the pitches at Feroz Shah Kotla have turned into a batting paradise, and now high-scoring matches are a frequent sighting here.
