Wriddhiman Saha surprised everyone on Monday evening by posting on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he is retiring from cricket after the current Ranji Trophy season.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha wrote in his retirement post.

Wriddhiman Saha brings the curtain down on his 17-year-long career, which was decorated with countless achievements. Saha made his international debut in the Nagpur Test on 6 February 2010 against South Africa. He played his first ODI match on 28 November 2010 against New Zealand.
In his career, Saha played 49 matches for India, including 40 tests and 9 ODIs. In his test career, he scored 1,353 runs at an average of 29.41 with 3 centuries and 6 half centuries. Saha featured in nine one-day internationals for India and scored just 41 runs at an average of 13.67.
Wriddhiman Saha is known as one of the best wicketkeepers that India has ever produced in terms of glove work. Saha took 92 catches and registered 12 stumps in his 40-match test career. In 9 ODIs, he took 17 catches and registered one stump to his name.
Wriddhiman Saha started his cricketing career in 2007 for Bengal. He made his IPL debut with KKR in 2008. Wriddhiman Saha has been a part of every IPL since the start of the tournament and played for five teams.
Saha was part of KKR from 2008 to 2010, he played for CSK from 2011 to 2013, for KXIP from 2013 to 2017, SRH brought Saha in 2018 and released him in 2021. GT is Saha’s last team in the IPL, which bought him in 2022. Wriddhiman Saha won two IPL trophies in his IPL career with CSK in 2011 and 2022 with GT.
Saha played 170 matches in his IPL career and scored 2934 runs at an average of 24.25 with a century and 13 half-centuries. In IPL, Saha registered 93 catches and 26 stumps. But now Saha has decided not to take part in the upcoming IPL auction following his decision to retire.
Before he retires from cricket, Saha will get at least four more matches if he plays in all the remaining Ranji Trophy encounters of Bengal. Saha featured in 138 first-class matches and registered 7013 runs at an average of 41.74. He also played 116 List-A matches and scored 3072 runs at an average of 40.42.
In his post-retirement life, Saha could move into coaching, as he spent two years in Tripura as a player mentor before coming back to Bengal last year after a meeting with Sourav Ganguly.
