Punjab Kings played only 10.1 overs before the game was abandoned on Thursday evening.
The 58th match of IPL 2025 between PBKS and DC on Thursday evening in Dharamshala has been dropped due to floodlight failures. IPL released a statement, explaining how the power outage in the area disrupted the match.
The statement said, “The Punjab Kings v Delhi Capitals match (Match#58) in Tata IPL was forced to be abandoned due to a significant technical failure at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala. Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”
The match began with Punjab Kings winning the toss and choosing to bat. PBKS opener Priyansh Arya, along with Prabhsimran Singh, dominated the innings with a 122-run stand off 61 balls. Priyansh Arya (70) and Prabhsimran Singh (50*) were playing the innings when Arya fell in the first ball of the 11th over, and the players left the field due to a floodlight failure at the stadium.
As PBKS raced away to 50 runs for no loss in four overs, Arya and Prabhsimran took down Mitchell Starc and Dushmantha Chameera in the powerplay. Later, they took down Kuldeep Yadav as well, hitting him for two sixes and two boundaries.
Arya scored his third fifty-plus score of the IPL 2025 in the seventh over off 25 balls. Prabhsimran achieved his own fifty in the tenth over, becoming the first uncapped batter to score four half-centuries in a row in the IPL.
The next game for PBKS will be against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 11, which has been moved from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad. DC will face the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Delhi on the same day.
