The BCCI will confirm Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion in the 15-member squad for Champions Trophy 2025 on February 11, Tuesday.
The BCCI is set to announce Bumhrah’s availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 11. Reportedly, India pace ace Bumrah picked up an injury during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has undergone a scan. The BCCI is waiting for the deadline for the submission of final squads for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is February 11. As uncertainty lingers over Bumrah’s fitness, his inclusion in the 15-member squad is skeptical.
As per reports of ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah has undergone a scan on his back at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The results will be delivered to the India Team management before the decision is made.
Earlier, Bumrah was included in the provisional 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 released on January 18. However, since then, he has not been a part of any game in the ODI series against England. When experts and fans hoped he to play the third ODI in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, the 31-year-old player traveled to Bengaluru instead.
In January, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, while announcing the provisional squad for the upcoming ICC tournament, said that based on the information provided by the BCCI medical staff, Bumrah was not “likely to be fit for the first couple of games” of the England ODI series. Agarkar mentioned that Bumrah was “asked to offload for five weeks” from bowling, before getting new scans on his back in the first week of February.
Bumrah hasn’t participated in a match since he couldn’t bowl during Australia’s second innings in the Sydney Test at the beginning of January. Reports indicate that he experienced a stress reaction in his back, necessitating five weeks of rest.
In case, Bumhrah is unable to play any part of the Champions Trophy, Harshit Rana would be replacing him. However, if there is a chance Bumrah could be playing in the later stages of the tournament, India India could choose to keep him in the squad and replace him with ICC approvals. After February 11, any changes in the squad require the permission of the tournament’s technical committee.
India is in Group A of the tournament along with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. India will be playing all its matches in Dubai since it couldn’t travel to Pakistan, which is hosting the tournament this time. India will commence the tournament against Bangladesh on February 20, before playing Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.
