The Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings in IPL 2025 saw major changes after Lucknow SuperGiants’ five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. With this win, LSG not only moved 2nd into the points table but two of their star performers also topped the Orange and Purple Cap standings. Shardul Thakur, named ‘Man of the Match’ for his four-wicket haul against SRH, is currently leading the race for the 2025 Purple Cap. On the other hand, Nicholas Pooran, who single-handedly dismantled the Sunrisers’ bowling unit with 70 off 26 balls, has the Orange Cap for the moment.

LSG vs SRH Match Summary

Player of the Match, Shardul Thakur, delivered a crucial spell of 4 for 34 -the best of his IPL career, limiting SRH to 190/9 despite their impressive batting lineup. In retaliation, LSG’s chase was backed by Pooran’s blistering inning of 70 off just 26 balls, featuring six boundaries and as many sixes.

Shardul Thakur, given the fact that he went unsold at the mega auction this November, applied the early brakes by dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan off successive balls in the third over of the innings. He later accounted for Abhinav Manohar and Mohammed Shami.

For the unknown, he was brought into LSG for IPL 2025 as merely a replacement for Mohsin Khan, who got injured.

Meanwhile, Pooran formed a match-winning 116-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh, who contributed 52 off 31 deliveries. Although LSG lost Aiden Markram early in the innings, Pooran and Marsh took charge and dispatched the SRH bowlers throughout the ground.

On the contrary, Travis Head (47 off 28) started impressively and threatened to take the game away from LSG, until he was dismissed by Prince Yadav. Aniket Verma (36 off 13) and Pat Cummins (18 off 4) hit 8 sixes in the 17 balls they encountered.
