Fitness Issues Keep Rishabh Pant’s Availability in Suspense for Second Test in Pune

Rishabh Pant sustained a knee injury during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. While Pant did not keep wickets following his injury, he did come out to bat in the second inning and scored a gutsy 99. However, as the second Test begins on Thursday in Pune, concerns over his condition and participation remain doubtful.

According to certain sources, the selectors have left it up to the team management to decide on Pant before the match. Dhruv Jurel retained wickets in Pant’s absence in Bengaluru, and he might be a replacement if Pant is ruled out.

The report further says that the Indian team may wish to try Jurel since he could be an ideal prospect in the upcoming Test series against Australia.

India suffered a rare home defeat on Sunday, falling to New Zealand by eight wickets in the first Test. This was New Zealand’s first-ever test win in India in 36 years. However, Rishabh Pant put New Zealand at bay in the second innings, hitting a blistering 99 off 105 balls as India scored 462 runs.

In his post on X, he thanked the Bengaluru audience for their support and promised to return stronger for the second Test.

“This game will test your limits, knock you down, lift you, and throw you back again. But those who love it rise stronger every time. Thanks to the amazing Bengaluru crowd for the love, support, and cheers. We will be back stronger.”
