Finally, World Champions are Coming Home as BCCI Announces Team India’s Arrival

Rohit Sharma‘s World Cup-winning Indian squad will arrive in New Delhi on Thursday early after their flight from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl.

The Indian contingent, which has almost 70 members, including all the staff members and the family members of players, was scheduled to leave Bridgetown at 6 p.m. (local time) and arrive in Delhi at 7.45 p.m. (IST) on Wednesday. According to the published article in the Hindustan Times, which says that the Indian team will now arrive in New Delhi by 5 a.m. on Thursday, according to a report by Sports Tak.

“It’s coming home,” the BCCI tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, implying that the squad may finally be prepared to leave Barbados.

The Indian cricket team’s homecoming was further delayed after their charter flight from New Jersey (USA) arrived late in Barbados. Rohit Sharma’s players won the T20 World Cup 2024, defeating South Africa in the final on Saturday. They were supposed to travel to India on Sunday but were compelled to stay in the island nation of Barbados.

Barbados’ administration was compelled to close the airport and cancel all flights due to the danger of Hurricane Beryl. On Wednesday morning (Indian time), multiple reports stated that the Indian team’s departure from Barbados had been delayed even further. The players are likely to arrive in Delhi on Thursday morning.

The players, who had been stranded in Barbados for three days due to the hurricane, were scheduled to board a Wednesday evening (local time) flight to Delhi, according to BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla’s tweet on Tuesday.

“Thank God team India is flying back from Barbados this evening to Delhi. Will be reaching tomorrow evening. They were stuck for three days there because of massive hurricane. @BCCI has made all arrangements for safe flight of players back home. BCCI secretary @JayShah himself is monitoring the whole situation,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning.

Finally, Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup-winning side has been coming, and India will not have to wait longer to greet its heroes. Earlier, after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29, the Indian team was unable to return home due to Hurricane Beryl.

With the Indian team, approximately 70 members of the Indian contingent, including cricketers, support personnel, their families, and BCCI top executives, have also been detained in Bridgetown and Barbados for the past three days.
