England Announces ODI & T20I Squad for India Tour and ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The squads for next month’s white-ball tour of India, including three ODIs, five T20Is, and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, were announced by the England Cricket Board (ECB) on Sunday.

Joe Root, who last featured in the one-day format in England’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign, will be returning to action. Jersey Number 66, Joe Root has played 171 ODIs, scoring 6522 runs at an average of 47.60, including 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries.

Ben Stokes, the England team’s all-rounder, is still recovering from a left hamstring injury that he picked up during England’s third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month, which has led to him not being considered for selection by the English Cricket Board.

England Tour of India in January 2025

Before heading to the Champions Trophy 2025, which will take place in February and March 2025, England will visit India for a five-match T20I and three-match ODI series, with the T20I series beginning on 22 January, and ODIs from 6 February.

Both the white-ball squads, which are led by Jos Buttler, feature a mix of youth and experience. Both squads are largely the same, except Root, who has only been selected for the ODIs and Champions Trophy, and the 20-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed, who is only featured in the T20I squad.
