After a historic series win in the 50-over format, Pakistan was all set to repeat that feat in the shortest format of the game in Brisbane, where Pakistan and Australia met for the first T20I match of the three-game series on 14 November. In a rain-halted game at Gabba, which was reduced to seven overs a side, Pakistan decided to field first after winning the toss.
In allocated seven overs, Australia put on a humongous total of 93/4, thanks to Glenn Maxwell’s carnage of 43 off 19 and Stoinis’ late cameo of 21 off 7. The target of 95 runs in seven overs was like “boiling the ocean.” Despite this, Pakistan put up a great fight because of the late lower-order fightbacks of Haseebullah, Abbas Afridi, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. If Pakistani top order had contributed then who knows, this match would have been a thrilling encounter. In the seven overs, Pakistan managed 64/9. Nathan Ellis and Xavier Bartlett both dismissed three batters each in their two-over spell.
