Players With the Most Sixes in T20

1. Rohit Sharma (2007-2024)

Rohit Sharma first played at the T20I World Cup hosted by South Africa in 2007 and, from those cameos in the middle-order subsequently, something great was seen to be coming. For a while in 2008 though, Sharma was sidelined for most of the parts after which he re-emerged to become the most dangerous in the shortest format of cricket for India. He scored 205 sixes in 159 matches and got the most sixes in T20.  Fondly called the “Hitman”, Rohit Sharma hung up his boots from T20Is after lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup title for India.

2. Martin Guptill (2009-2022)

In 122 matches of T20I, Guptill hit 173 sixes and became another player to score the most sixes in T20; many times he provided the Kiwis with the needed start. Though he was dismissed for a duck in his T20I debut against Australia, he frequently returned with a consistent performance afterward with his first century coming against South Africa in an unbeaten cause. Guptill had one other century that came against England.

3. Nicholas Pooran (2016-Till date)

What makes Nicholas Pooran such a thrilling talent is his background story. When he finished the 2014 U-19 World Cup as the fourth-highest run-scorer, an accident saw him ripping up his patella tendon, fracturing his tibia, and fracturing his ankle.

Pooran’s 24-ball-50 against India in 2018 made him heard of the world and since then, he has not looked back. Though the Trinidad man has yet to get his maiden T20I hundred, his capacity to trade in sixes makes him a valuable asset in the format and he has already muscled 144 sixes in just shy of 100 games.

4. Jos Buttler (2011-Till date)

Even while the English cricket team has had its own set of stars across the decades, Jos Buttler was easily the first global T20 name to come out of the cricket camp. Gaining recognition as a T20 beast with IPL, Buttler notched up an impressive 863 runs in the 2022 season that earned him the title of the second-highest in the T20 league, coupled with four centuries. Buttler never looked back since 2016, despite making his T20I debut in 2011. He has so far hit 137 sixes from 124 matches and has sixes against Australia and India, to whom he has conceded 56 and 45 respectively.

5. Suryakumar Yadav (2021-Till date)

India’s Suryakumar Yadav is just another batter who has made six-hitting appear incredibly simple. Yadav, better known by his stage name SKY, likens himself to the legendary AB De Villiers of South Africa due to his ability to hit sixes with relative ease from wherever on the ground. Who was called Mr. 360 in cricket. His T20I career is less than three years old, and Yadav already boasts four tons in the shortest format of international cricket. His centuries have come against big teams like England, South Africa, and New Zealand apart from Sri Lanka. He has hit the most number of T20I sixes against West Indies (35).

6. Glenn Maxwell (2012-Till date)

There’s only one player who can be bestowed with the title of being the biggest entertainer in white ball cricket. That, of course, is Glenn Maxwell. He is one of Australia’s fastest run scorers, evident from his unbeaten 128-ball-201 against Afghanistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup and his 19-ball-50 against Tasmania years before that is the fastest fifty in Australia’s one-day domestic career. This move has benefited him greatly, as he sits fourth on the all-time list and still has as many as five T20I centuries, joint highest with Rohit Sharma. Maxwell will henceforth tell you how India has been his favorite opponent in T20Is. Against them, he has hit two tons and 34 sixes. He secured 134 sixes in just 113 games.

7. Paul Stirling (2009-2024)

If only the promising basher of Belfast was born in some other part of the world, it would have probably meant being a superstar through cricket with the ability to generate such enormous power with almost no backlift. Paul Stirling’s straight shot down the ground and pull shot over midwicket have been a treat for sore eyes. He scored 128 sixes in 145 matches.

Having appeared way back as long ago as 2009 with a T20I debut, Stirling has experienced nothing but the pouring rain since he last had a break from the Irish squad.

8. Aaron Finch (2011-2022)

With a heavy build and aggressive approach with the bat, Aaron Finch was always meant to be a T20I specialist given the format’s demand. Such had been Finch’s demand in the T20 format that he ended up playing for nine IPL franchises over the years. Although he only scored hundreds of runs in T20I matches against Zimbabwe and England, his record of 125 sixes was long regarded as one of the best.

9. Chris Gayle (2006-2021)

The “Universe Boss”, as Chris Gayle is popularly known, has been playing cricket much before T20Is were introduced in the international arena and registered 124 sixes in 79 matches. Ever-present tiffs of Gayle with the board of cricket in the West Indies kept him on and off the national team till he hung up his boots, but nobody ever doubted his ability. That remains the highest single score in the league’s 16-year history by someone who has played since its inception. His 175 unbeaten for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL back in 2013 is still the highest individual score in the history of the league.

10. Virat Kohli (2010-2024)

The second-highest run-scorer in t20Is after Rohit Sharma and boasting of the highest average from the above list, Virat Kohli has 124 sixes in the shortest format of the game. The “king of cricket”, as he is fondly called, rewrote the way the game was played with his unparalleled fitness and mentality.

The 124 sixes have been accompanied by Kohli’s 124 sixes in the 125 matches in the shortest format of the game, which he hung up recently after the T20 World Cup 2024.
