The Caribbean Cricket Board has announced the West Indies Women’s Team for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE. Hayley Matthews will be leading this 15-member West Indies women’s team. Apart from Matthews, another pillar of the West Indies women’s team, Deandra Dottin is also included in the squad, as she decided to come back into the national team after a sudden decision to quit in 2022.
Dottin has more than 100 T20I caps for the West Indies, making him one of the most seasoned players on the team, along with Shemaine Campbelle and Stefanie Taylor, who also had 100 international games under their belt. With 96 games, Skipper Matthews is well on her way to reaching that milestone. In addition to being an important batting asset, Dottin can help her team with her medium-pace bowling as well.
Dottin would be a great addition to the Caribbean team that is full of players with all-round abilities who can help their team in both areas—skipper Hally Matthews herself, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, and Mandy Mangru are just a few examples of it.
The Windies bowling line-up is made of Ashimini Munisar, Zaida, Qiana Joseph, and Karishma Ramharack, who will handle the spin chores. On the other side, Aaliyah Alleyne, Shamilia Connell, and uncapped Nerissa Crafton will take responsibility for the pace attack.
The West Indies team is in Group B of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 alongside England, South Africa, Scotland, and Bangladesh, and they have to kick off their World Cup campaign on October 4 against South Africa. But before that, they have warm-up matches against Australia and India.
