King Kohli reached 14,000 ODI runs during the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan in Dubai, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
India’s chase master Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs during the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. On Sunday, the 36-year-old Kohli made his 51st century in ODIs to chase a target of 242 runs. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar (350 innings), by hitting the milestone in only 287 innings. Kohli achieved this feat when he scored 15 runs in his inning of 100* in the chase against Pakistan.
Kohli hit 13,000 in only 277 innings, 44 innings quicker than the previous record-holder Tendulkar who achieved this feat in 321 innings. Kohli then went on a tear in the ODI World Cup that year, breaking Tendulkar’s record for most runs in a single edition, with 765 runs. During the ODI World Cup semi-final, he broke Tendulkar’s record by scoring his 50th ODI century.
After Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (378 innings) in 2015, Kohli is only the third batter ever to reach this landmark. He took only 10 innings to cross from 13,000 to 14,000 runs. In September 2023, Kohli hit his 13,000th ODI run, incidentally while facing Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Colombo.
Having accumulated more than 15,000 runs in total List-A cricket, the right-handed batsman holds the 15th position in the all-time rankings and is third in ODI cricket behind Tendulkar (18,426) and Sangakkara (14,234). Kohli’s 54 List-A centuries rank second only to Tendulkar, who has 60.
