South Africa delivered a clinical all-round performance to beat India by 76 runs in the 2nd Match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Electing to bat, the Proteas overcame an early wobble to set up a commanding 187 for 7 in their designated 20 overs before bowling out India for just 111 in 18.5 overs.
South Africa’s innings got off to a rocky start as they were left reeling at 20 for three inside the first four overs. But Dewald Brevis (team’s highest, 47) and David Miller helped Bravos arrest this downslide with their 97-run stand that turned out to be the half of the tall chase. Brevis cameos a 45 off 29 balls with Miller blazing away with a 63 off only 35 balls, decorated by seven fours and three sixes. The finishing flourish came from Tristan Stubbs, who was unbeaten on 44 from 24 balls to take Carty’s team well beyond India’s comfort zone. Jasprit Bumrah was India’s outstanding bowler, taking 3 for 15 in four overs to briefly take the game down to the wire.
Chasing 188, India never settled with the bat. The top order failed to string together stands after Ishan Kishan was dismissed for a duck in the first over. Abhishek Sharma put them in with 15, and Suryakumar Yadav made 18, but consistent wickets pegged the chase back. Shivam Dube fought alone and his 42 off 37 balls was far from enough.
The relentless pressure continued from the bowlers of South Africa. The middle and lower order were destroyed by Marco Jansen, with 4 for 22, and Keshav Maharaj, who took 3 for 24. Corbin Bosch chipped in with two crucial wickets as well. It was a tight-knit bowling performance which saw India fold well below the target, resulting in easygoing work for the Proteas and put them on a stronger threshold into super 8 stage.
