Riyan Parag Back In Action: Set to Lead Assam in Ranji Trophy

Assam and India all-rounder Riyan Parag, who was absent from action for three months due to a chronic shoulder injury, has been finally declared fit to lead Assam in the Ranji Trophy.

Riyan Parag has been declared fit to return to action for the seventh round of the Ranji Trophy season 2024-25, which will commence on 30 January 2025. Parag is set to lead Assam against Saurashtra in their final league fixture in Rajkot. After having gotten his chronic shoulder issue sorted once and for all, he will be seen in action after October 2024.

Parag’s last game was the third T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in October 2024. After that, due to a chronic shoulder injury, which required surgery, he was not considered for the T20I series in South Africa and the ongoing T20I series against England. Following this, he was also not considered for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but the teams are yet to announce their full squads and Riyan’s game-time may help him in securing the position as a cover.

In the previous Ranji Trophy season, Riyan Parag scored 378 runs in six innings at an average of 75.60 and a strike rate of 113.85 – a breakout season that earned him his maiden T20I national call for the Zimbabwe series of July 2024. Seeing the stats, Parag’s comeback may prove beneficial for Assam, who is floating at the bottom of the Elite Group D table with zero wins, two losses, and four draws in six matches. While Assam is out of contention for the Ranji Title, Saurashtra is still in the race for knockouts.

Assam Squad

Riyan Parag (capt), Denish Das (vice-capt), Mukhtar Hussain, Mrinmoy Dutta, Rahul Singh, Dipjyoti Saikia, Parvez Musaraf, Sumit Ghadigaonkar (wk), Rishav Das, Anurag Talukdar (wk), Avinav Choudhury, Sibsankar Roy, Akash Sengupta, Pradyun Saikia, Amlanjyoti Das

Well, coming after the rehab and recovery of more than three months, all eyes will be on the comeback of the all-rounder as he takes on the responsibility of leading Assam in the Ranji Trophy while navigating back to his peak form.
