Left-arm Australian speedster Mitchell Starc was sold to Delhi Capitals for 11.75 crore on day 1 of the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah. Starc was sold for a whopping 11.75 crore, yet he has to get a 47.4% pay cut from his previous year’s salary.
Strac was the most expensive player in IPL history coming to this year’s mega auction as KKR bought him for 24.75 crore in the 2024 IPL auction.
However, his value dropped by INR 13 crore in the 2025 mega auction. Starc entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore, and the Mumbai Indians began bidding on the star pacer. KKR also entered the picture, and the two teams engaged in an intensive bidding war lasting until 6.25 crore.
From there, Delhi Capitals entered the auction and increased the stakes of the Australian fast bowler to 6.75 crore, sparking another bidding war with Kolkata. Starc’s valuation soared to 10.25 crore, at which time KKR pulled out.
However, out of nowhere, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) entered the picture and boosted the investment to 11.50 crore. In the end, Delhi made the final bid of 11.75 crore, which proved enough to get the star pacer.
In the last season, Starc played a massive role in winning the trophy for KKR. His best version came out during the knockout games of KKR, where he won the (Player of the Match) in both Qualifier 1 and the final.
Starc scalped 3/34 in four overs in Qualifier 1, including the invaluable wicket of dangerous-looking Travis Head. He also picked up 2/14 in 3 overs in the final, including the vital wicket of Abhishek Sharma, to lead KKR to their third IPL victory.
After buying Starc at a great bargain price, Delhi will be hoping that the Aussie southpaw pacer will deliver at the crunch moment for them in the upcoming season.
