Rahul Scored a Match-winning 57* against LSG, Pujara Applauded for ‘Not Carrying Last Season’s Baggage’

Fans are thrilled to watch the star player KL Rahul in a new form. DC defeated LSG on Tuesday after the right-handed batsman hit his third half-century in the IPL 2025 against the Delhi Capitals.

After missing the first several games due to paternity leave, he scored an incredible fifty-seven in the final game, bringing his total to 323 runs in seven innings. Not only this, but he is also the highest run-getter for Delhi Capitals this season, and his latest innings of 57 off 42 balls- a match-winning performance is another display of his batting skills.

KL Rahul, 33, is averaging nearly 65 in this season with DC, and Cheteshwar Pujara has attributed Rahul for not carrying last season’s “baggage” – the fallout with Lucknow Super Giants. With his most recent scores, he has proved himself to be one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the team.

When discussing Rahul’s IPL 2025 performance, Pujara stated on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut: “It’s a good thing to just go forward and not hold onto the past. Look, KL is a mature player. Last couple of years, he’s been batting well across formats. He doesn’t want to think about the past and wants to enjoy his batting and be in his zone, rather than think about what went wrong when he was playing for the LSG team.”

Further adding, Pujara said, “It’s wonderful to move on, since it will help him perform better for DC and even the Indian squad. Because of his recent batting form, the Indian squad has also come to rely on him. He appears much more mature now, both personally and professionally, and he knows his game quite well. KL Rahul has evolved from the previous season. Despite not looking very [fluid] when he first started [against LSG], he picked it up.”

On Tuesday night, Lucknow Super Giants posed 159 for 6, after which, Rahul walked out with his team at 36 for 1 in the fourth over. He was slow to start, only scoring 19 runs off 20 balls by the end of the tenth over. However, DC was in a strong position with 80 runs for 1 wicket since Abishek Porel was hitting runs at the other end.

Rahul started hitting sixes in consecutive overs, first off Ravi Bishnoi and then Aiden Markram, both spinners. He finished the game with another six after playing consistently and reaching his fifty runs off forty balls.

Former England opener, Nick Knight said, “Captaincy can do funny things to you – sometimes you thrive on it, sometimes it’s a burden. Whether that has affected anything, we are now free to play the match situation and not captain.”
