The BCCI has confirmed that the much anticipated IPL Mega Auction of 2025 is likely to be held in the second half of November, and according to some media reports, it is expected to take place at some overseas locations.
According to IPL insiders who spoke with the media, the location will probably be in the Middle East, much like it was last year. The auction was conducted in Dubai last year, but it wouldn’t be shocking if it were staged in another Gulf city, like Doha or Abu Dhabi.
It’s also said that Saudi Arabia, which has recently made significant investments in cricket and other sports, is keen to host the auction. But as of right now, the location remains unclear.
IPL franchisees have responded cautiously to the news because they have not yet received the retention regulations in advance of the mega auction.
Several franchise officials are worried about whether they will have enough time to properly prepare for the auction after learning from the BCCI that there may be a delay in the announcement of these regulations.
According to recent reports, the retention guidelines might be revealed by the end of this month, giving the teams two months to complete their auction plans. It is anticipated that the franchisees would have until November 15 to announce their retentions.
The IPL and BCCI have long desired to hold the auction abroad, but they were only able to accomplish so in December of 2023. In past seasons, there have been intentions to hold the auction in London at various points, and Istanbul was also being examined as a possible location.
