IND W vs WI W, 3rd T20I, DY Patil Stadium, December 19, 2024: A Night of Shattering Records

In the third match of the ongoing IND W vs WI W T20I series, India defeated West Indies by 60 runs in the DY Patil Stadium to clinch the series 2-1. Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, and Radha Yadav were the star performers of the match for India. Smriti was named player of the series while Richa was named player of the match. But the highlight of the match was the numerous records broken by India and Indian players.

Here are the records that were shattered by India W in the 3rd T20I against West Indies W in DY Patil Stadium:

Highest T20I Total in Women’s T20Is: India scored 217 for 4 against the West Indies in Navi Mumbai last night, which is now their highest total in women’s T20Is. Their previous best was 201 for 5 versus UAE earlier this year in the Asia Cup. It is also the highest total by any side against the West Indies in this format, surpassing Australia’s 212 for 6 at North Sydney Oval in 2023. India’s 217 for 4 is their highest women’s T20I total in India as well. The previous record was 209 for 4 by Australia against England in the tri-nation series final in 2018.

Most Half-Centuries in Women’s T20Is: Smriti Mandhana played a magnificent knock of 77 (47) in this match, which took her tally of 50s in T20Is to 30. Smriti now becomes the player with the most 50-plus scores in women’s T20Is, surpassing Suzie Bates, who has 29 fifty-plus scores.

Fastest Fifty in Women’s T20Is: Richa Ghosh took just eighteen balls for her fifty in the 3rd T20I against West Indies in DY Patil Stadium. In terms of balls, it is the joint-fastest fifty in women’s T20Is. Before Richa, Sophie Devine and Pheobe Litchfield had the record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20I, which Devine registered against India in 2015 and Litchfield against the West Indies in 2023. Richa Ghosh also registered the fastest fifty for India in Women’s T20Is. Mandhana scored India’s previous quickest fifty from 24 balls in a 2019 Wellington match against New Zealand.

Most Fifties in a Calendar Year in Women’s T20Is: Eight of Smriti Mandhana’s 30 T20I fifties have occurred in 2024, surpassing Mithali Raj’s seven half-centuries in 2018 as the most fifties by a batter in a calendar year in women’s T20Is.

Most Runs in a Calendar Year in Women’s T20Is: Smriti Mandhana scored 763 runs in 2024 T20Is, which is now a record for the most runs in a calendar year in Women’s T20Is. Chamari Athapaththu is second on the list for the most runs in a calendar year, with 720 runs overall this year.

Fifty Plus Scores in Three or More Matches in Women’s T20Is: Smriti Mandhana, who has scored fifty in every game of the three-match T20I series against West Indies, has registered the record of three or more consecutive fifty-plus scores in WT20Is. Only two Indian batters achieved this feat; the other batter is Mithali Raj, who has four from 2016 to 2018. Most Sixes in a T20I Match in Women’s T20Is: India (7) and the West Indies (7) struck a total of 14 sixes in the 3rd T20I match, the joint second most in a Women’s T20I game. The highest number of sixes in a women’s T20I match is 15, recorded in the South Africa vs. India match in Potchefstroom in 2018.
