The ICC updated its ranking charts on Wednesday, and this update proved fruitful for English and South African cricketers. Harry Brook is the most benefited player in the recently updated ICC test rankings, moving up to the number 2 spot, replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal of India.
Brooke played a match-winning knock of 171 runs in England’s win over New Zealand in the Christchurch test. His fellow countryman Joe Root managed to hold on to his number 1 position in the ICC Test Batting Rankings despite scoring 0 and 23 not out in the first NZ-ENG Test. But Root doesn’t have a firm grip on the no. 1 spot, as there are just 41 points that differentiate him and his teammate Harry Brook.
Kane Williamson maintained his third ranking thanks to scores of 93 and 61 in the first test match of the New Zealand-England Test Series. Yashasvi Jaiswal slips to fourth position after Brook’s brilliance in Christchurch. Jaiswal’s “Daddy Hundred” against Australia in Perth propelled him to the second position in the previous ranking updates.
Heroes of South Africa’s win in Durban over Sri Lanka are the other prominent members of the group of players that gained ranking in the recently updated ranking charts. Temba Bavuma, who laid the foundation for South Africa’s win by scoring 70 runs under tough batting conditions, rose to the career-best number 10 place in the Test Batter’s Ranking.
Player of the match of the Durban Test, Marco Jansen, was the most benefited player from this encounter; he skipped 19 places to end in the 9th position in the Test Bowling Rankings. Jansen also broke into the top 3 of the test all-rounders ranking, sitting in 2nd place behind no. 1 ranked Ravindra Jadeja. Alongside Bavuma, Stubbs also showed his batting prowess in Durban by scoring a century, which benefited him 29 spots; Stubbs is now in the 42nd position.
The Durban Test is not all about South Africa; some Sri Lankans also gain rankings. Kamindu Mendis moved up two places to the 7th position in the test batting rankings. Veteran Sri Lankan batter Dinesh Chandimal also rose two places to 17th position in test rankings.
