Bumarh Returns to the top at ICC Test Bowlers Ranking

After a remarkable performance six against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Jasprit Bumrah has now become the world’s best Test bowler. He takes R Ashwin‘s place at the top of the rankings, who was named Player of the Series against Bangladesh.

Player of the Match from the Kanpur Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is another significant mover from India in the ICC Test Rankings; he is now the 3rd best test batsman in the world. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya—who was named Player of the Series during his team’s 2-0 victory over New Zealand in tests—rose to joint seventh place among bowlers.

Notable changes in the Test rankings include the return of India’s Virat Kohli to the top 10 among batsmen, where he moved up six spots to No. 6 after hitting 47 and 29 not out in Kanpur. Sri Lanka’s new batting sensation Kamindu Mendis rose to No. 11 after his heroics in the second Test in Galle. Bangladesh‘s Mehidy Hasan Miraz to No. 5 among allrounders, making it two Bangladeshis in the top five test allrounders, with his teammate Shakib Al Hasan maintaining his position at No. 3.

Bumrah has held the top spot in the ICC Test Rankings twice now. In February of this year, he rose to the top of the Test rankings, making history as the first fast bowler from India to do so. Prior to Bumrah, Kapil Dev was the highest-ranked Indian fast bowler in history, peaking at No. 2 in the ICC rankings for 1979–1980. Bumrah had overtaken Ashwin at the top in February as well.
