England has announced its squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, and it’s full of surprises as some big names miss out. England has rewarded good individual performances from their recent local competition in selecting their squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
On 27 August, the first Women’s T20 World Cup champions announced their 15-player squad for the October tournament, with Heather Knight returning as captain for the ninth edition. England relied on players who performed well in the recently concluded Hundred tournament.
Players that are chosen from this competition are all-rounder Dani Gibson, spinner Linsey Smith, speedster Lauren Bell, keeper-battler Bess Heath, and all-rounder Dani Gibson.
It means that despite scoring 164 runs in the most recent edition of The Hundred, experienced opener Tammy Beaumont will not be selected, while seamers Kate Cross and Lauren Filer are also significant absentees.
The English selection committee has maintained the core of the England team that had played in the previous edition. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Danni Wyatt, Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, and Amy Jones are all part of England’s Women’s T20 squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Heather Knight, the captain of England, was looking forward to the T20 World Cup challenge. In her statement, she said, “World Cups are always special events to be involved in as a player, and I’m really excited by the squad we have selected to take over to the UAE.
“It’s an honor to lead the team into another World Cup. We’re looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Head coach Jon Lewis added, “I feel the 15 players selected give us a really well balanced squad in terms of experience, youth, and most importantly, the skills to cope and excel in the conditions we feel we will be faced with in the UAE.”
In the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, England is drawn into Group B with neighbors Scotland, Bangladesh, South Africa, and the West Indies, and they will start their quest for a second T20 World Cup Trophy on 5 October against Bangladesh.
