Sri Lanka vs West Indies Full Scorecard, 2nd ODI, Pallekele, 20 October 2024

Sri Lanka clinched the three-match ODI series by defeating West Indies in the 2nd ODI in Pallekele. Earlier in this match, the Sri Lankan captain decided to field first, considering the possible threat of rain and the DLS Method. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 44 overs. Came to bat first, the West Indies were unable to handle Sri Lankan spinners and were restricted to 56/8 in 15.2 overs. It was almost impossible for the West Indies to reach even 100 runs if it were not for Rutherford and Motie, who formed a 119-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Rutherford played an 80-run inning, and Motie added the invaluable 50 runs down the order to take West Indies to a respectable score of 189 runs. While chasing a 190-run target in 44 overs.

Sri Lanka too didn’t off to a great start as they also lost their two wickets in the powerplay for just 25 runs. From there, Madhuska and Samarwickrema steered the Sri Lankan inning’s ship in the right direction by putting up a 50-plus-run partnership. After Madhuska’s dismissal, captain Aslanaka took responsibility on his shoulders, just like in the first ODI of this series. Asalanka remained not out on the individual score of 62 runs to take Sri Lanka across the finish line. Sri Lanka chased 190 runs target in 38.2 overs and registered another home series win in white ball cricket this year.
