While the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Melbourne concluded tragically for India, Australia proved its prowess in cricket by leading the 5-match series 2-1, defeating India by 184 runs on Monday. On the fifth and final day, India was bowled out for 155 in 79.1 overs while chasing a target of 340 runs. The young and agile, Yashasvi Jaiswal (84 off 208) outplayed which made it seem that India might escape a draw. Rishabh Pant (30 off 104) batted out the complete second session to take India to 112/3, but his fall set the stage for the hosts.
Australia’s captain Pat Cummins and the right-arm bowler Scott Boland were the standout bowlers taking 3 wickets each, displaying determined fast bowling.
Recommencing the day at 228/9, Australia was bowled out for 234, thanks to India’s star paceman, Bumrah. Jasprit Bumrah (5/57) unsurprisingly led the match with a five-wicket haul. This brutal defeat of India poses a major setback in their content in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
