Arun Jaitley Stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, is the second-oldest international cricket stadium in India. The stadium derives its former name from where it is situated. It is close to the Feroz Shah Kotla, a fort constructed by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate. This venue got its new name in memory of the former finance minister of India, Mr. Arun Jaitley, because he served as the president of DDCA and vice president of BCCI.
Since it was first established in 1883, this venue has undergone extensive redevelopment. The stadium is also referred to by the locals as “Kotla,” which is a colloquial word for citadel or fortification. In 1948, India and the West Indies played the first-ever international cricket match in this stadium. Since then, this venue has hosted 73 international cricket matches; 35 of them are Tests, 31 are ODIs, and 7 are T20Is.

However, after an ODI between India and Sri Lanka had to be canceled in December 2009, the Kotla pitch faced harsh criticism for its terribly uneven bounce, which led to the decision that the pitch was unsafe.
