Rishabh Rajendra Pant is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a wicketkeeper batsman for the Indian team. Rishabh is known as one of the most stylish batsmen in the current crop of Indian cricketers due to his unique batting style. Pant was born in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, on October 4, 1997. Pant plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL; in fact, he is the captain of the Delhi Capitals. Rishabh has gained fame on an international level in test cricket. In the last few years, he has been one of the most consistent performers for Team India in test cricket. 

Rishabh made his international debut in January 2017 in T20 internationals. He made his One Day International Debut in October 2018 and his test debut in August 2018. His knock in the series-deciding test in Brisbane in 2021 can be considered his best inning so far on the international stage. In December 2022, Rishabh had a severe car accident, and after that, he was on a break of more than one year from cricket, recovering from the injury. He made his comeback to the cricket field in IPL 2024.

On October 4, 1997, Rishabh Pant was born in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Saroj Pant is his mother’s name, and Rajendra Pant is his father. In his childhood, he often traveled to Delhi with his mother for training with Tarak Sinha, his coach at Sonnet Cricket Academy. At the age of 12, his coach suggested he play for the Rajasthan U13 and U15 teams, but this did not work. Pant continued to play domestic cricket, and his career’s turning point came against the Assam U19 team when he scored 150 runs in the second inning of that game. After this game, Pant made his place among the emerging talents in Delhi and made his first-class debut soon after on October 22, 2015, and his List A debut in November 2015 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. 

In 2016, he scored the fastest century in the Ranji Trophy against Jharkhand. He was named captain of Delhi’s Vijay Hazare side in the 2016–2017 season. On the basis of his solid domestic performances, Delhi’s IPL franchise, which was known as Delhi Daredevils at the time, picked up Rishabh Pant in the 2016 IPL auction for just 1.90 crore. Pant was a decent player in his first two IPL seasons, but his breakthrough year in the IPL came in 2018, when he scored 684 with a century in that season. Thereafter, he became a very important member of Delhi’s IPL team and was chosen as a replacement for injured captain Shreyas Iyer in 2021. His international debut was against England in a T20 series in January 2017. 

He was the youngest player to debut for India in T20 internationals at the age of 19 years, 120 days. Pant’s test debut was also against England on August 18, 2018. His ODI debut was against the West Indies on October 21, 2018. In 2018, he took eleven catches in a test match against Australia, which is a record by an Indian wicketkeeper. In 2019, he was picked up in the ODI World Cup squad and played a few matches in the 2019 CWC. His career’s most glorious moment was his innings of 89* in the second innings of the 2021 Border Gavaskar Trophy GABA test. In December 2022, he had a severe, life-threatening car accident. He took more than one year to return to the field and made his comeback in the 2024 IPL, where he is leading the Delhi Capitals 2024 IPL squad

Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in the 2016 IPL season for Delhi Daredevils. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils in a 2016 IPL auction for 1.90 crore and played 10 matches for them in that season. Delhi retained him for the next season at the same amount. The 2017 IPL season was an average season for Rishabh Pant, where he scored 366 runs with two half centuries. The 2018 IPL season was Rishbh’s breakthrough season, where he unleashed his true potential to the world. In the 2018 IPL season, Rishabh scored 684 runs at an average of 52.61 and a strike rate of 173.60. 

In that season, he hit five half centuries and a century, not out 128 runs, which is his best score in the IPL so far. After the 2018 IPL season, Rishabh became an integral part of Delhi’s IPL team, which helped them reach the playoffs in 2019 and 2021 and the final of the 2020 IPL season. In the 2021 IPL, he was named captain of the Delhi Capitals when Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the entire season due to injury. Rishabh missed the 2023 IPL season due to his injury. In the 2024 IPL season, he made his comeback and led the Delhi Capitals’ side.
