Bumrah attained India’s ex-bowler Ashwin’s 904 rating points, ruling as the top Test bowler.
Jasprit Bumrah has been an exceptional player throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 against Australia and set a new record in Brisbane. He attained a 9-wicket haul for 94 runs in the third test against Australia, which earned him 14 additional rating points, making his total to a career-high 904 rating points.
With his stellar performance, Bumrah consolidated his pole position in the ICC test bowling rankings, standing equal to freshly retired spinner R Ashwin. Ashwin achieved this feat in December 2016 after the fourth Test against England in Mumbai.
This rating created the joint highest-rated Indian Test bowler in ICC history. The 31-year-old Bumrah, however, has the chance to surpass this feat in the upcoming Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 against Australia in Melbourne.
With the standout performance by various players, the rankings of the ICC players have repositioned. Kagiso Rabada of South Africa made 856 rating points which placed him second in the top Test bowler list. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood stands third in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Travis Head displayed an exemplary run in the series against India. His heroic knock of 152 in the first innings of the Brisbane Test earned him the fourth spot in Joe Root’s leading ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings with 825 points, overtaking Yashashvi Jaiswal.
Steve Smith’s century in the third test gets him back in the top ten once again, whereas Rishabh Pant has got away from the top ten rankings. Contrarily, Indian opener KL Rahul’s exemplary batting display in the first innings of the Brisbane Test raised him by 10 places to 40th position.
Australia’s Pat Cummins has drawn his place back in the top 10 all-rounders with his 4 wickets and 42 runs in the third Test against India. Travis Head showcased his skillfulness with the ball and moved nine places up to 29th.
