Shubman Gill Jersey Number: How did the “Prince of Indian Cricket” Get his Jersey Number?  

Shubman Gill is one of the most promising young talents of the Indian cricket team. Gill is often referred to as the Prince of Indian Cricket due to his proximity in talent with the King Kohli, in batting style and consistency. Gill made his debut for Team India in 2019, and since then, till 5 December 2024, he has played 97 matches across all formats, scoring 4706 at an average of 43.57 with 12 centuries and a highest score of 208.

Shubham Gill wears jersey number 77 for Team India, while he wears number 7 when he plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). An interesting story of how Gill gets his jersey number.  

How did Shubman Gill get his Jersey number?  

In an interview with Star Sports, Gill said that he wants to get jersey number 7 of the Indian team. But at the time of Gill’s debut, the Jersey Number 7 was worn by legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni, so he chose to get 77 instead of 7. Gill said in his interview that number 7 is his lucky number, and the only reason why he wanted jersey number 7. However, his dream of wearing a number 7 jersey was fulfilled by Gujarat Titans.
