Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Debutant Scotland Announces Squad; Star All-Rounder Kathryn Bryce Returns to Lead

Debutant Scotland has announced the squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. Scotland selected a 15-member team that will be led by Kathryn Bryce, who has been making her return to the team, after may 2024.

The Scottish all-rounder’s last appearance on the international stage was in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024. She helped her team qualify for the Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time. Bryce scored 177 runs and took nine wickets during Scotland’s qualifying campaign.

Sarah Bryce, a wicketkeeper and sister of skipper Kathryn Bryce, is named vice-captain. Abtaha Maqsood, an accomplished leg-spinner who recently guided the team to win in the Netherlands tri-series, is also included in the squad. Apart from skipper, Scotland has plenty of options who can contribute with bat and ball both in the form of Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, and Megan McColl.

The head coach of Scotland, Craig Wallace, shared his views on the selected squad by saying, “The make-up and balance of this squad is outstanding. We’ve got match-winners from start to finish within it, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure. People have been putting in crucial performances each time they step onto the field, and that runs right the way through the squad.”

“While it was really tough, it was also actually enjoyable to select this squad, looking back at many of those great performances, and we know all 15 players can go out there and win cricket matches for us at the World Cup.”

“To help this squad qualify for the World Cup is the greatest thing I’ve achieved. To be part of history is massively special for all the players – and for me, though I’m just trying to help these players on a journey. I’m far more excited and more nervous about this World Cup than I was when I was a player.”

Scotland is in Group B of the competition with Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa, and neighbors England, and it will begin its Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Bangladesh in the first match of the tournament on 3rd October.
